INDONESIAN SURFER WINS GOLD IN ASIAN BEACH GAMES
Bali, Oct 25 (ANTARA) - Indonesian surfer Oka Sulaksana won a gold medal in the heavy weight OD mistral event of the Asian Beach Games ending here on Saturday.
The Balinese surfer was able to collect nine points from 10 races. Actually there were still two other races but they failed to to be carried out because the wind speed was not high enough.
Actually Oka collected 12 points but the points were cut by three because he made a mistake in race five.
The silver medal of the event went to Thai Arun Homraruen who collected 19 points while the bronze was won also by Thai surfer, Seksan Khuntong with 27 points.
In the light weight the gold medal went to Kwok Fai Cheng of Hong Kong while the silver medal to Chinese Yikai Huang. Thai Navin Sinsart won a bronze medal in the event.
In the women's OD mistral Chinese Shuijin Wang won a gold medal with nine points. She actually collected 15 points but they were cut by 6 points because she made a mistake in the eigth race.
The silver medal went to Wai Kei Chan of Hong Kong collecting 23 points and the bronze to Chinese Shengmei Wang with 27 points.
In the RSX class Korean Tae Hon Lee won a gold with 21 points while Chi Ho of Hong Kong won the silver and Chinese Zhennan Fang the bronze.
In the Laser 4.7 Open sailing event Chinese Xiaowen Ni grabbed a gold medal collecting 26 points while Thai Natthawut Paenyaem won the silver medal with 26 points and Thail Keerati Bualing won the silver.
Xiaowen Ni and Natthawut both collected the same points but the Chinese deserved the gold medal because he had grabbed number one titles for three times while the Thai had not.
In the Hobie 16 event, Thai Damrongsak Vongtim and Kitsada Vongtim successfully clinched the gold medal after collecting 12 points while the silver medal went to Che Ming Patrick Lam and Yui Shing Tong of Hong Kong with 33 points.
Indonesian athletes Ario Dipo and Yoseph Udjulawa had to be satisfied with a third place winning the silver medal after collecting only 36 points.
Indonesian assistant manager for sailing and windsurfing, Ropi'i, said that the country's target in the windsurfing was met but not in the sailing event.
"In the sailing event we targeted one gold but only got a bronze," he said.
