FOUR MINISTERS ISSUE JOINT REGULATION TO MAINTAIN ECONOMIC GROWTH
Jakarta, Oct 25 (ANTARA) - Four cabinet ministers have issued a joint regulation on their respective roles in maintaining the country's economic growth in the face of world economic developments.
Home Affairs Minister Madiyanto, Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu, Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno, and Industry Minister Fahmi Idris signed the regulation last October 11 and discussed it at a national tripartite meeting at the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry on Friday evening.
The joint regulation contained a general clause which said that the ministries involved should make every possible effort to maintain economic stability and a conducive situation for the continuity of business activities and industrial calm.
Therefore, the four ministers were required to initiate various efforts to prevent any disruption to the continuity of business activities and industrial calm.
The manpower and transmigration minister was requested to consolidate workers and businessmen through regional and national tripartite cooperation forums, encourage effective bipartite communication between workers and businessmen, and improve the effectiveness of mediation in solving problems between workers and businessmen.
The home affairs minister was expected to motivate provincial governors, district and municipal heads to support the continuity of business activities in their respective regions and to improve the effectiveness of communication, encourage the governors to set minimum wages by paying attention to labor intensive enterprises and national economic growth, and to make the governors and district/municipal heads optimize the roles, functions, and duties of the agencies and institutions in their respective jurisdiction dealing with manpower affairs.
The industry minister was to encourage efficiency of production processes and optimization of production capacities and industrial product competitiveness, and adopt policies to promote the use of domestic products.
The trade minister was tasked to prevent or ward off the entry of illegally imported or smuggled goods , to strengthen the domestic market and promote the use of domestic products, and to encourage export of labor-intensive products.
