Iran lifts ban on imports of cars, cell phones and computers

Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov.21/ Trend G.Mehdi/
Iran has lifted a ban on imports of cars, cell phones, and computers, ISNA quoted Trade Promotion Organisation Deputy Director Kiyumars Fathollah Kermanshahi as saying on Tuesday.
"Cars with an engine capacity of below 2300CC are free to be imported," he said.
Goods have been categorised into three divisions. The first division of goods including strategic ones are being imported as usual.
"The second division goods are being prioritised, while imports of the third division goods are totally restricted," he noted.
Iran has cut importation charges for strategic goods which are currently imported using the dollar at the official rate of 12,260 rials, in a bid to curb inflation as a result of imports, the Fars News Agency quoted Iranian Customs Administration Head Abbas Memarnejad as saying on Sunday.
"Accordingly, the charges will be lowered by 50 per cent for goods in high demand as of November 21," he added.
On September 22, Fathollah Kermanshahi said that the imports of some specific goods which are also domestically manufactured may be limited in a bid to prop up domestic producers.
"Domestic production will be supported as much as possible observing the market situation," he added.
