VP: NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT RUPIAH'S DEPRECIATION
Jakarta, Oct 24 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla called on the people here on Friday not to worry too much about the depreciation of the rupiah to below Rp10,000 against the US dollar because the country's economy was still better than those of other countries.
"There is nothing to worry about now. The rupah's depreciation was not caused by us but by global conditions. Compared to other countries like Australia we are still better off," he said responding to a newsman's questions after performing Friday prayers.
The vice president said what was happening now was the impact of the global crisis.
Regarding the country's economy he said that it was no problem. He said the country's companies operating in banking and other sectors were not facing any extraordinary problems and so "there is nothing to worry about."
He said that currency fluctuations were a normal thing. He believed the market would correct them.
