THIRTY-TWO COUNTRIES TO TAKE PART IN WHCC IN SOLO

Solo, C Java, Oct 24 (ANTARA) - As many as 156 cities in 32 European and Asian countries are to take part in a six-day World Heritage Cities Conference (WHCC) which will open here on Saturday.

The 156 cities included 96 Indonesian ones, spokesman of the event's organizing committee Agustinada said here on Friday.

He said the WHCC was one of the activities held under the program "Let's Go To Solo", a tourism program designed to attract as many tourists as possible to visit the city this year.

The WHCC was a world-class conference organized by the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC), an organization affiliated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), he said.

"Other countries have greeted the holding of WHCC with enthusiasm. Therefore, the number of participants jumps to 350, exceeding the target of 150 participants," he said.

Actually, the organizing committee had extended invitations to 39 countries but only 32 of them had confirmed their intention to take part in the event, he said.

He expressed hope the event would contribute to the development of the tourism, trade, and investment sectors in the city.

OWHC Secretary General Rassikh Sagitov said Solo was chosen to host the event because of great supports from mayors in all the countries who considered the city rich in cultural heritages.
