FOUR RI SUKHOI PILOTS TO JOIN SIMULATION IN CHINA
Jakarta, Oct 24 (ANTARA) - Four Indonesian Sukhoi pilots from the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) will attend a flight simulation in China next week to increase their capability in flying the Russian-made jet fighter planes, a spokesman said.
Commandant of Sultan Hasanuddin's airbase's Squadron-11, Flight Maj. Iko Putra said here on Friday that the four Sukhoi pilots would train in the Chinese flight simulation center for about one week beginning October 27, 2008.
"They are expected to conduct 20 sorties with air-to-air and air-to-ground techniques using conventional and smart bombs (for air-to-ground) and short and medium range missile launches (for air-to-air)," Iko said.
Iko said Indonesia had chosen China as the Sukhoi pilots' training country as China had the needed technology that was even better than in Russia.
"China also has complete Sukhoi for a simulation such as the Su-27SK and Su-30MK type, which is also owned by the TNI AU. So, we can learn and train how to control various Sukhoi variants," he added.
The four Sukhoi pilots who will be dispatched to attend the simulation are Flight Col. Arif Mustofa (Wing Commandant 5 of the Hasanuddin airbase), Lt.Co. Ari Gustoro, Flight Major Untung Suropati and Flight Major Toni.
Arif Mustofa said that preparations for the simulation in China would be finalized at the headquarters of the TNI AU next week.
