HOUSE SPEAKER: DISCUSSIONS ON PORNOGRAPHY BILL FAR FROM OVER
Jakarta, OCt. 24 (ANTARA) - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Agung Laksono said deliberations on the Pornography Bill were still far from done as lawmakers were still debating the substance of and procedures concerning the bill.
"There are two important things which are still being debated. I was informed by Muhaiman (House deputy speaker), that the substance is still being debated article by article and chapter by chapter, and also procedures concerning the bill. And in the Consultative Body yesterday, Thursday, they did not even complete the first stage of the deliberations," Laksono said at the Parliament Building here on Friday.
The two aspects were still being intensively debated, he said.
"The substance and articles are still being debated, especially concerning definitions and so forth. After a consensus has been reached, the deliberations will enter the decision making stage," he said.
After the debates end in agreements, the bill will be brought to a House plenary meeting, he said.
The House Speaker hoped that the deliberations on the Pornography Bill would be completed in accordance with the national legislation program. "The sooner,the better," he said.
"The deliberations should be completed in accordance with the existing regulation and if possible they should be finished in the current House sitting. But, if it is not finished, it should not be forced," he said.
