VP ASKS KPAI TO PROTECT CHILDREN

Jakarta, Oct 24 (ANTARA) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla has called on Indonesia's Commission for Children's Protection (KPAI) to protect the country's children intensively and continuously from acts of violence.

"The vice president has asked KPAI to intensively and actively protect the country's children from child exploitation. If you want to be angry, please be angry at the people or at the actors of violence against children," KPAI secretary Hadi Supeno said after a meeting with Kalla here on Friday.

According to Hadi Supeno, child exploitation in sexual harassment, entertainment, television media, and for other economic interests, was on the rise at present and thus KPAI should try to overcome it.

He said KPAI has also seen that pornographic industry and its websites were easily accessible by children and it was very dangerous for them.

"In light of all these, the vice president said KPAI should see the children objectively, and 20 percent of education funds from state budget is part of government attempt to improve education for the country's children," Hadi Supeno said.

He met with Kalla to report KPAI's plan to organize a national coordination meeting (Rakornas) on November 15-17, and invited the vice president to open the meeting.
