Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz receives Iranian Minister of Interior
Amman, October 23, SPA -- Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz, Interior
Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and leader of his country's
delegation to the 5th meeting of Iraq's neighboring countries,
received at his guest residence in the Jordanian capital of Amman
today Iran's Minister of Interior Ali Cardan.
During the meeting, they exchanged cordial talks and reviewed
the distinguished relations between the two countries.
In a press statement after the meeting, Prince Naif said the
meeting, which dealt with security aspects, comes as confirmation of
two countries' leaderships keenness that their security relations
should look in the best shape.
On the conditions of Iraqi prisoners in the Kingdom, he said
"the situation of Iraqi prisoners in Saudi Arabia is like other
prisoners, including the Saudis, as we treat all prisoners just like
Saudis".
He confirmed that his country has extradited a group of
prisoners to Iraq and is ready to hand over another group.
Asked about the number of Iraqi prisoners in the Kingdom, he
said he could not remember the number, adding that there might be
Saudi prisoners in Iraq, particularly those who defamed the Kingdom
by saying that they are Muslims and mujahideen (holy warriors)
despite the fact that they are not.
Asked to comment on the accusation of those who question the
fairness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the trial of some members
of the deviant group and whether they would be brought to justice,
Prince Naif said Saudi Arabia is committed to its Constitution and
law, that's the holy Quran and Prophet Mohammed's sayings and deeds.
We distance ourselves from offending any human being, whether Saudi
or non-Saudi, he said, adding that "our duty is to collect evidence
and prevent tampering with the security of the homeland, before
sending the whole case to justice which will rule according to law".
He described relations between Saudi Arabia and Jordan as
excellent in all fields, thanking King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of
Jordan for the warm welcome and generous hospitality accorded to the
Saudi and other delegations, and emphasizing that continuous and
permanent meetings and calls between the Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Majesty King
Abdullah II of Jordan as well as officials in both countries always
take place.
The meeting was attended by Saudi interior minister's
accompanying delegation.
