AACO thrashes out repercussions of global economic turmoil on Arab

TUNISIA, Oct 23 (Saba) - The 41st round of the Arab Air Carriers
Organization (AACO)currently being held in Tunisia provides a good
opportunity to thrash out the global financial turmoil and its
repercussions on the Arab transport companies, said chairman of the
Yemenia Airlines Board of Directors.

Abdul Khaliq al-Qadhi said the meeting will allow heads of Arab
transport authorities to exchange views and experiences as well as
finding solutions for pending problems among Arab air transport
companies.

The meeting will also provide them with the opportunity to tackle
problems between Arab and European transport companies, he said.

Preparations for the union next meeting, set to be held in Sharm
el-Sheikh in November, would be discussed during the current round.

Al-Qhadi took part in the meetings of the General Assembly and
Executive Committee of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO)and
the meeting of chairmen of boards of directors of Arab Air Transport
Companies.

On the fringes of the meetings, he met with several counterparts
and discussed with them aspects of cooperation and means to promote
cooperation with each.

The Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) general assembly meeting
came up with some decisions on means to boost cooperation among AACO
member states and that call on Arab governments to re-consider air
routes to reduce the consumption of fuel.

The meeting also urged the governments to re-think of taxes and
duties imposed on various air transport activities to ease movement
of people and goods among their countries according to the
principles enshrined in the Damascus treaty.
