HOUSE SPEAKER: AMROZI'S EXECUTION SHOULD NOT BE POSTPONED
Jakarta, Oct. 24 (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Agung Laksono has asked the Attorney General not to postpone the execution of Bali I bombers Amrozi et al who are now on death row.
"I regret the postponement (of the execution) without a clear excuse. Just execute (them)," Agung Laksono said at the Parliament Building here on Friday.
Laksono said if there was no more legal attempts to be conducted by the convicts, they should be executed. Any postponement of the execution was not necessary, he said.
"We must abide by the existing regulations and must not subdue to terrorists," he said.
Law must have no exception, and whatever the risk must be faced, he said.
"It's the task of security officers to safeguard this beloved country. There must be no legal exception," he said.
He ruled out a suspicion that the terrorist network uncovered recently at Kelapa Gading was a threat or a resistance against the execution of Amrozi.
Laksono believed that the security situation in Indonesia currently is fully under control.
The Constitutional Court (MK) recently turned down death-row convict Amrozi's request to conduct a judicial review on Law No.2/PNPS/1964 on Procedures to Implement the Death Penalty.
Amrozi et al who were sentenced to death for their involvement in Bali bombings had filed for a judicial review of the law because they believed execution by a firing squad as mandated by Law No. 2/PNPS/1964 was against their constitutional right not to be tortured.
