SANCTITY OF ISLAM MUST BE MAINTAINED DESPITE DIFFERENCES IN POLITICAL
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- An Opposition Member of Parliament
Thursday ticked off those whom he felt had insulted Islam, including his colleagues from People's Alliance (Pakatan Rakyat).
According to Zulkifli Nordin, there were some who questioned the Jawi
script and even supported apostasy.
Speaking while debating the 2009 Supply Bill at the Lower House of
Parliament here Thursday, he said there were groups that did not respect the
Muslim community while some tarnished the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house
celebrations by putting forward demands that could disrupt harmony.
"Some might say that my statements sound like I speaking on behalf of the
ruling party (BN) but what I am doing is to maintain the principles of Islam. I
do not care what others think because I am answerable to God for what I do,"
he said.
Barisan Nasional (National Front or BN) is a major political coalition in
Malaysia.
