BP MIGAS CONTINUING TO IMPROVE ITS WORK PROCEDURES

Jakarta, Oct 23 (ANTARA) - The Upstream Oil and Gas Regulating Body (BP Migas) said it was continuing its efforts to carry out improvements including in the procurement of goods and services, a spokesman said.

General Affairs Deputy of BP Migas Hardiono said his office had been carrying out services and good procurements in accordance with the standard procedures and regulations.
He made the remarks after he was asked to provide explanations by the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Fuel oil Inquiry Committee here on Thursday.
He said that the DPR's Special Inquiry Committee also shared the view that BP Migas had done its job to procure services and goods based on the standard procedures.
"The regulations that we adopt are complete and the best ones in view of the current world oil development," he added.
He said that BP Migas also continued to try to speed up the process of goods and service procurements.
Previously, a number of members of the special inquiry committee after hearing the Hardiono's explanations asked the BP Migas to improve its procurement system because the system it had used so far had the potential to cause losses to the state.
Inquiry committee member Sonny Keraf said the absence of a benchmark in the procurement of goods and services was something that the BP Migas still had to improve.
Besides, there was also a too big difference between the salary of local staff members and that of foreigners.
"Other thing is that a project that could actually be given to a local contractor but it is given to foreigners," he added.
Tjatur Sapto Edy, the other member of the committee, asked BP Migas to stop giving the supervisory function to contractors.
"This is a wrong management system where the one who is planning is also the party who is supervising at the same time," he added.
