HOUSE STILL UNCERTAIN ABOUT PASSING PORNOGRAPHY BILL

Jakarta, Oct 23 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR)is still unable to set a date for the passage of the Pornography Bill as the special committee (Pansus) preparing its final draft has yet to complete its job.

The House's Consultative Body (Bamus) - a forum that determines legislation schedules -- at a meeting here Thursday decided to give the Pansus more time to finish its task, House Deputy Speaker Muhaimin Iskandar said after chairing the meeting.
"Bamus has decided to give a chance to the Pansus to arrive at the level-I decision on the bill," he said.
Iskandar also said if the Pansus had reached the level-I decision, the Bamus would fix the schedule to make the level-II decision (to adopt or reject the bill at a House plenary session).
"Bamus is giving the Pansus until Oct 29, 2008 to complete its deliberations. We will set the date for the bill's passage later," he said.
Asked whether it was certain the House would pass the bill, Iskandar said it would depend on the level-one decision to be made by the Pansus.
"The important thing is that the government and all House factions complete their discussions in the Pansus and agree to sign the bill's final draft. Thereafter, we can hold further consultations," he said.
