INT`L STAMP EXPO BEING HELD IN JAKARTA

Jakarta, Oct. 23 (ANTARA) - An international stamp exhibition is being held from October 23 to 28 at the Jakarta International Event and Convention Center (JITEC) in Mangga Dua Square, North Jakarta.

Hundreds of philatelists from 24 countries in the Asia and Pacific region are participating in the expo.
The six-day exhibition will include a competition for medals in a range of stamp contests.
Stamps from various countries such as Australia, India Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, South Africa, Venezuela and Indonesia are being displayed in the exhibition.
State postal service company PT Pos Indonesia will issue joint stamps with the postal service of Turkey on Friday (Oct. 24) and Cuba on Monday (Oct. 27).
The exhibition open from 10 am to 9 pm, was aimed at encouraging Indonesians, particularly the younger generation, to collect stamps, according to Head of the Indonesian Philately Association (PFI) Soeyono recently.
Indonesian stamps are generally less attractive than those of Japan, for instance, according to an Indonesian philatelist and stamp trader participating in the expo.
Japanese stamps were very attractive because their packagings were beautiful, said Imelda at the international stamp exhibition here on Thursday.
She said Japanese stamps featuring cartoon characters were in great demand among philatelists, including those from Indonesia.
