SNIFFER DOGS DEPLOYED AT BALI`S ENTRY POINTS

Denpasar, Indonesia, Oct 23 (ANTARA) - Sniffer dogs have been deployed at every point of entry into the resort island of Bali following the recent arrest of a number of terror suspects in Jakarta, police said.

"Besides the sniffer dogs, CCTV cameras have also been installed at the entry points to monitor happenings in and around the points," Bali police spokesperson Adjunct Senior Commissioner Sri Harmiti said here on Thursday.
She said the dogs had a sharp sense of smell and were able to pick up the scent of explosive materials, sharp weapons, and other hazardous materials.
"The dogs have been posted at the entry points to support the joint security forces there," Sri Harmiti said, adding that the entry points were among others Ngurah Rai international airport and a number of sea ports such as Gilimanuk, Padangbai, Benoa, and Celukanbawang.
Meanwhile, Bali Police Chief Inspector General Ashikin Husein said he had ordered his men to intensify security at the entry points to prevent suspected terrorists from entering Bali.
"We have ordered security personnel to intensify security at every entry point into Bali following the arrest of several suspected terrorists in Jakarta on Tuesday," Ashikin Husein said.
He said besides anticipating the possible entry of terrorists into Bali, security was stepped up following the ongoing Asian Beach Games (ABG) in Bali.
"Since we have been entrusted with hosting the Asian Beach Games, we have to ensure security across the island," Ashikin Husein said.
Ashikin Husein said with the tighter security measures, Bali was expected to be safe from bomb attacks and other terrorist acts, following the arrest of suspected terrorists in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Apart from arresting the suspected terrorists, the police also seized 21 rounds of ammunition, three kilograms of explosive material, and two bombmaking manuals.
