MINI ANCOL PARK TO BE BUILT IN MATARAM

Mataram, Indonesia, Oct 23 (ANTARA) - A Mini Ancol recreational park will soon be built in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB)'s provincial capital of Mataram to support the region's tourism, a local official said.

The Mini Ancol recreational park would be located at Mapak in South Ampenan sub district, near the sacred tomb of Loang Balok, Makmur Said, a spokesman for the Mataram city administration, said here Thursday.
He said the Mataram municipal administration had already cleared two hectares of the five hectares of land needed for the park.
The funds for the land clearing and construction of the park were allocated from the regional budget.
According to Lalu Makmur, the physical construction of the Mini Ancol park would be started in 2009. He said hotels would probably also be built at the location to accommodate visitors.
Commenting on the Loang Balok tomb, Makmur said it was considered sacred by the local people and therefore hundreds of people continued to make devotional visits to the site every religious holiday.
He said the tomb had its own specific characteristics and thus it was also drawing many foreign visitors, especially from the Middle East.
Therefore the local government has renovated the Loang Balok tomb and another one, Bintaro tomb, to support the province's tourism program.
