Egyptian FM stresses promotion of ties with Iran

Foreign Minister of Egypt Ahmed Aboul Gheith stressed the importance
of promoting bilateral ties with Iran, in a meeting in Cairo on
Tuesday with Iranian MP, Ali Reza Marandi.

A spokesman for Egypt's Foreign Ministry, Hossam Zaki, said that
Gheith met with Marandi, also Iran's former health minister, who
handed over a letter from Iran's Majlis Speaker, Ali Larijani, to the
Egyptian foreign minister on Tehran-Cairo relations.

Gheith said that promotion of Iran-Egypt ties based on mutual respect
would, in addition to serving the interests of Tehran and Cairo, help
consolidate regional stability.

The Iranian MP said, for his part, that Iran and Egypt are two great
countries in the world of Islam.

Marandi said that exchange of views between Iranian and Egyptian
officials would help further promote bilateral relations.
