Jakarta, Oct 22 (ANTARA) - Five suspected terrorists who were arrested in the Kelapa Gading area, North Jakarta, on Tuesday had planned to blow up a gas station in Plumpang, North Jakarta, police said.
"One of their objectives was to blow up Plumpang gas station but their other objectives are still under investigation," National Police Headquarters spokeksman Brig Gen Sulistyo Ishak said here Wednesday.
He said following the arrest of the five suspected terrorists on Tuesday, their plan to attack the Plumpang gas station was foiled.
"We are grateful because their arrest has foiled their plan to carry out terrorist acts in the country," Sulistyo said, adding the five men were identified as Rusli Mardani alias Wahyu Ramadhan alias Uci alias Farid alias Zulfikar, Nurhasani alias Hassan, Iman Basori alisas Basar, Muntasir, and Budiman.
He said Rusli, Hasan, Muntasir and Budiman were arrested in Jakarta while Basar was arrested in Bogor, West Java. Rusli was also suspected of being involved in past terrorist activity in Ambon in Maluku and Poso in Central Sulawesi.
"On January 22, 2007 Rusli was involved in a shootout with Poso police who were conducting an operation to arrest suspected terrorists," he said, adding that two days later Rusli fled to Gorontalo and one day afterward he went to Jakarta and stayed somewhere in North Jakarta.
In addition, Rusli was also involved in an attack on a police station in Ambon in 2005.
In his hideout in North Jakarta, Rusli was in possession of firearms, explosive materials, and maintained contacts with terrorist groups in South Sulawesi, Palembang, Jakarta, Ambon, and Poso.
In Tuesday's arrest in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, the police also seized a 9 mm caliber revolver, a magazine, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition , a firearm, 257.5 grams of TMP, and a bomb assembling manual.
