HOLLAND EDUCATION FAIR TO BE HELD IN YOGYAKARTA

Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Oct 22 (ANTARA) - Some 20 universities in the Netherlands will participate in a Holland Education Fair 2008 which is to be organized for the fifth time in Yogyakarta on November 4, 2008.

"The education fair is part of efforts to introduce the higher education system in the Netherlands to the Indonesian community," said Marrik Bellen, director of Neso Indonesia (a Dutch higher education cooperation institution).
Bellen said the Holland Education Fair would be held in Bandung on October 29, in Yogyakarta on Noveber 4, and in Surabya on November 6, 2008.
According to Bellen, the participating universities in the fair were those that had signed the Dutch higher education code of ethics and had been allowed to recruit foreign students.
For Indonesian students wishing to study in the Netherlands, Bellen said they were not required to master Dutch if they knew English.
"It is because people in the Netherlands can also communicate in English in their daily life," Belle said, adding that there were at least 1,400 programs of study with English as medium of instruction in the Netherlands.
He said the Dutch government every year also provides 200 scholarships to Indonesian students who want to study for a master's degree in the Netherlands.
