TM SEEKING MIDDLE EASTERN PARTNER

DUBAI, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's leading integrated information and
communications group, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), is looking for a strategic and
long-term partner to market its products and solutions in the Middle East and
Africa.

Its project director for the Malaysian Emergency Response System (MERS
999),
Rozinah Anas said TM had the financial stability, global presence and skilled
manpower in information, communication and technology to attract partners to
grow in the region.

"We really hope to team up with local partners as our marketing arm and in
providing the needed bridge in the region," she told Bernama at the ongoing Gulf
Information Technology Exhibition (Gitex) 2008 at the Dubai International
Convention and Exhibition Centre here Wednesday.

Rozinah said TM was exploring the possibility of business collaborations
with companies in proposing solutions and services such as emergency response
and customer service contact centres.

"TM may enter into a memorandum of understanding with a local partner with
the intention of exploring opportunities," she said.

Rozinah said TM wants to promote the MERS 999, an initiative of the
Malaysian government to consolidate the country's many emergency numbers into a
single point of access, 999.

"We are in serious negotiations with several potential clients in the
Middle East," she said.

Through the system, the emergency services will perform their respective
core functions such as security and safety enforcement, fire prevention, medical
services provider and humanitarian and rescue services for the public.

Among the components of the system is a computer-aided dispatch (CAD),
computer telephony interface, geographical information system, emergency
business intelligence, voice recording, mobile CAD and medical expert
system.

"The system enables the automatic identification of telephone numbers and
location of callers with the help and sharing of information between
telecommunication service providers," Rozinah said.

"All 999 emergency response centres will be connected to the agencies
through a virtual private network," she added.

TM posted a better performance in the second quarter ended June 30, 2008,
with earnings before tax, interest and depreciation (EBITDA) of RM787.0 million
against the RM759.7 million in the same period last year.
Its revenue was up to RM2.109 billion from RM2.103 billion.
