NIOC chief: Anti-Iran sanctions ineffective in oil, gas output

Tehran, Oct 22, IRNA

Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Company Seyfollah Jashnsaz
said on Tuesday that anti-Iran sanctions have not had any impact on
quality and quantity of oil and gas production in Iran.

Jashnsaz said in an interview that Phases six, seven and eight of
South Pars gas field have been commissioned at a time when four
resolutions have been issued against Iran over the past few months.

He said the sanctions aimed to block import of sophisticated
technology to Iran, while the state-of-art technology was
used for development and commissioning of the three phases.

He added that among achievements made by Iran through
development of the three phases is acquisition of strategic
experiences, management of master projects by Iranian workforce,
transfer of technology to the country and augmenting the
self-confidence of Iranian contractors.

He noted that sanctions would have been effective if they had
disrupted oil and gas production, while Iran's oil production capacity
rose to 4,102,000 barrels per day in 2007 from 4,050,000 bpd in 2006
and gas production also showed an upward trend in the period.

On SP Phases six, seven and eight, Jashnsaz said the phases will yield
three different products: 104 million cubic meters of natural gas,
158,000 barrels of gas condensates and 452 tons of propane and butane
gases a year.

He added that the gas yield from the three phases will be injected
into oil fields in southern Iran such as Aghajari oil field.

He said development of phases six through eight had cost dlrs 2.5
billion and they are to earn the country a revenue of dlrs 7-10
billion a year.
