GOVT TO AID SMALL AND MEDIUM COSMETICS BUSINESSES TO INCREASE COMPETITIVENESS
Jakarta, Oct 21 (ANTARA) - The government will provide aid to small and medium cosmetics businesses to improve their competitiveness to meet the Asean free market in 2009, health minister Siti Fadillah Supari said here on Tuesday.
She said "the finance minister has promised to give funds to the Food and Drugs Supervisory Agency for use as technical assitance to small and medium cosmetics businesses."
She said the competitive power of the country's cosmetics industry must be boosted to meet the Asean free trade in 2009. This is important to meet inflows of cosmetic products from other countries, she said.
She said "it is a must for small and medium cosmetics businesses in the country to improve themselves to make them stronger to meet the Asean free market."
In view of that she said the health ministry through the Drugs and Food Supervision Agency would help develop the businesses with the funds to be provided by the finance ministry.
The agency's chief, Husniah Thamrin, meanwhile had complained about the cut reaching 15 percent on the funds received by the agency. She hoped the funds for the development of small and medium cosmetics businesses would be disbursed immediately without any cut.
She said the agency was currently still mapping out the needs of the industry to increase its competitiveness.***
