NATIONAL STANDARDIZATION AGENCY PRESENTS RI TO BECOME ISO COUNCIL
Jakarta, Oct 21 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Standardization Agency (BSN) had been elected as International Standardization Organization (ISO) Council for the 2009-2010 periode, an official said.
BSN Head Bambang Setiadi said on Tuesday Indonesia was elected as among 18 countries chosen to be the ISO Council on the ISO General Assembly in Dubai.
"One of the benefits to be ISO Council is that Indonesia can get involved in the making of policies and discussing international standards as well as standard strategic issues," Setiadi said.
"We can become the first country to know the latest ISO standard. We then can announce the policy in Indonesia as soon as possible," he added.
The development of the standard arrangements, setiadi said, is in line with the development of sciences, technology, people and the environment.
The ISO Council supervises some committees and holds a meeting twice a year to improve the policy and the availability of strategic guidance to improve cross-sector standards.
"The international organization itself is developing actively standards on bio-technology, greenhouse gases and nano-technology. It is expected to be a standard in dealing with carbon eradication," Setiadi said.
The 31 ISO General Assembly in Dubai was presented by 416 participants from 115 member countries.
