Governor of Makkah speaks about a giant development project

Jeddah, October 20, SPA -- Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz,
Governor of Makkah Region, who is also Chairman of the Executive
Committee for Developing Shanty-like Areas in Makkah Region
announced that a project to rehabilitate some un-planned
neighborhoods in Makkah, Jeddah and Taif built randomly during
pre-development era could perhaps be considered the world's giant.

In a press conference in Jeddah today, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal said
the project is not just a residential one but it is a humanitarian
project that covers all security, social, cultural, economic, health
and educational aspects of life.

He disclosed that there are more than 60 districts in Makkah, 52 in
Jeddah and others in Taif that need more care of the authority
concerned.

To this effect, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah
bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has instructed the formation of ministerial
executive committees to study relocating the current inhabitants of
those districts while rehabilitating the old neighborhoods into a
developed and civilized shape, the Governor said.

He added that citizens and legal expatriates who dwell in such places
will benefit from the project.

The private sector will be invited to invest in the project, he
added.
