Georgian CEC website subjected to cyber attacks

Georgia, Tbilisi, Oct. 2 / Trend N. Kirtzkhalia / The website of the Georgian Central Election Commission was subjected to cyber attacks on Monday night, chairman of the Georgian Central Election Commission Zurab Kharatishvili said today. Kharativshvili said that the first preliminary results of the parliamentary elections have been placed with a delay because of information attacks. He assured that at present, there are no difficulties with the placement of data on the website. The opposition coalition "Georgian Dream" representative David Zurabishvili said that the authorities wanted to use the interference in the website to misappropriate some votes. The representatives of the ruling party "United National Movement" refuted this assumption. According to the latest data, Bidzina Ivanishvili's opposition bloc "Georgian Dream" keeps leadership in the elections by party lists. As a result of considering 15.35 per cent of the ballots, the opposition party gets 52.77 per cent of votes. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's party "United National Movement" gets 42.08 per cent. Other parties got less than 5 per cent required to get into the parliament. As for the majority single-member constituencies, according to the preliminary data, the opposition bloc is leading in 27 constituencies, the ruling party - in 25 constituencies. The data for 21 constituencies have not been received. The parliamentary elections in Georgia were held on October 1.
