Gender to be included in development planning
SANA'A, Oct. 20 (Saba)- Deputy Minister of Planning and
International Cooperation Mutahar al-Abbasi asserted importance of
setting up institutional infrastructure for gender via applying
policies and programs associated with woman.
Opening the workshop on including gender in development planning
held on Monday, al-Abbasi indicated importance of holding this
workshop for starting preparations for the fourth five-year plan(
2011-2015) for taking into consideration including gender in
policies and programs.
Organized by Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation in
cooperation with ESCWA and UNICEF, the four-day long workshop
focuses on gender and development and needs associated with them and
including gender in the main stream for fixing its basic aims and
strategies.
In the workshop, 30 participants representing general directors in
concerned bodies discuss ways of preparing plans for including
gender in government institutions, gender budget, jobs of
government's budget and means of analyzing it.
General Director of Woman Department in the planning ministry Eaman
al-Hamami asserted importance of the workshop for it works on
deepening conceptions, expertise and knowledge contributing in
rooting institutional infrastructure for gender and focusing on it
while setting budgets.
Meanwhile Family and Woman Expert in ESCWA Huda Rizq reviewed
concept of gender and roles of men and women in the framework of
this concept saying: "gender aims at realizing equality between the
two sexes."
She affirmed the organization's readiness to provide assistance
concerning gender's social strategy to all Arab countries, among of
them Yemen.
