President: Kutaisi Airport to be most inexpensive in Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi, Sept.27/ Trend, N.Kirtskhalia / President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán opened new airport named after David Agmashenebeli on Sept.27 in Kutaisi. Georgian President stressed that the airport was constructed by the Hungarian specialists, which installed the roof of the airport building. "It is one of the most complex constructions, and Hungarian specialists adequately coped with this," he said. Saakashvili said that the Kutaisi Airport is air gateway for West Georgia, and it will be one of the most inexpensive airports. He stressed that the negotiations are underway so that the Kutaisi Airport became a hub for traffic from Europe to Asia and back. Saakashvili said that from next year visa-free regime with Europe will be introduced, and it is important that the flights were affordable to citizens. "The flight from Tbilisi to Kiev costs $600, from here $100, that is the difference, and an indication that there is no monopoly," he said stressing that in addition to Kiev it will be possible to carry out flights from Kutaisi to Minsk, Tel Aviv, other cities of the world. The airport received the first aircraft of the European budget airline Wizz Air. The company carried out Kiev-Kutaisi flight. Georgian Economy Minister Vera Kobalia was also on the board of this aircraft, she was on the visit to Ukraine. Construction of the airport began in November last year. French company will operate the airport. In addition to Wizz Air in Kutaisi in the first stage the flights will be carried out by Belarusian "BelAvia" and Russian "Siberia" in the direction of Minsk and Moscow, respectively.
