MSC M'SIA FIRMS REVENUE TO GROW BY 30 PCT THIS YEAR

From Mohd Iswandi Kasan Anuar

DUBAI, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The revenue generated by MSC Malaysia status
companies is expected to increase by 30 percent this year from RM17 billion last
year, said Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) chief executive officer
Badlisham Ghazali said Monday.

He said the target is achievable as most of the companies participating in
the local and international markets and higher demand for solutions offered were
either from telecommunications or Internet service providers.

Currently, there are 2,200 registered MSC status companies, of which
1,700 are active companies with revenue of RM17 billion and recorded a total
export of
RM5.6 billion.

"We see a strong growth in the third quarter results and we are confident
it
will grow at the same level last year despite the global economic downturn," he
told Bernama.

Badlisham urged all MSC-Status companies to explore the Middle East region
as the market for solutions and services was becoming the fastest growing sector
and MDEC was ready to assist the company to tap into expanding their export
opportunities.

Information and communications technology (ICT) expenditure in the Middle
East and Africa will hit US$40 billion in 2008 and Saudi Arabia had allocated
US$20 billion for ICT last year, he said, citing a report from analyst firm,
IDC.

"Among areas that should be focused include oil and gas, banking and
financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, retail, hospitality,
education and the public sector," he said.

Badlisham said GITEX, Middle East's largest technology showcase hosted by
the Dubai World Trade Centre, would be the ideal platform for companies to
market their services and solutions effectively abroad.

It is the international exhibition for computing, communications systems
and applications dedicated to the ICT industry.

As for this year, MDEC had introduced eight MSC-Status companies to an
estimated 130,000 visitors with 3,300 companies from 83 countries from Oct
19-23.

The companies are E-Government service provider MyEG Services Bhd, computer
exchange portal provider eBasis Bay Sdn Bhd, electronic records management and
data centre solution, Pingnet Technologies Sdn Bhd, wireless computing devices
company, ENT Quest Sdn Bhd, media mobile developer, Kadena Technologies Sdn Bhd,
and telecommunication solutions specialist iTopia Sdn Bhd.
