MALAYSIA IS PAKISTAN'S SECOND LARGEST SOUTH EAST ASIAN IMPORTER FOR 2007-2008

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia was the second largest importer
of goods and services worth US$103.26 million from Pakistan among South East
Asian countries, after the Philippines, for 2007-2008.

In the worldwide ranking, Malaysia was the 34 largest importer of Pakistani
goods and services, the High Commission of Pakistan said Monday.

According to data released by the Trade and Development Authority of
Pakistan, Malaysian imports from Pakistan included cotton fabrics, readymade
garments and textiles, cotton yarn, knitted fabrics and synthetic textiles with
an accumulated value of US$38,247 million.

Pakistan's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Tahir Mahmud Qazi, said the
Malaysia-Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership (MPCEPA) signed between the two
countries, provided enormous opportunities for Malaysian importers to forge
business alliances.

"Malaysian importers can benefit from reduced duties, taxes and procedural
concessions," he said.

The High Commissioner also encouraged Malaysian businessmen to attend Expo
Pakistan in Karachi from Oct 27-30, to gain first hand knowledge of trade
investment and business opportunities in the country.
