Georgian President to appoint Tugushi Minister of Punishment Execution

Georgia, Tbilisi, Sept. 20 /Trend N. Kirtskhalia/ President Mikhail Saakashvili offered the position of Minister of Punishment Execution, Probation and Juridical Support to the national defender Giorgy Tugushi. "I received his acceptance to fill this position," Mikhail Saakashvili said on Thursday. Giorgy Tugushi himself noted, that he didn't expect the offer. "I've served as an ombudsman, and we criticized the situation in prisons, but I wasn't able to do anything. Now I received the opportunity to reorganize the system, to protect the rights of prisoners and to adapt a system that does not torture, but protects the prisoners," he said.
