Left expected to raise "breach of privilege" issue on Monday

New Delhi, Oct 19 (PTI) Left parties are expected to raise the issue of "breach of privilege" by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in both Houses of Parliament on the issue of Indo-US nuclear deal on Monday.

Accusing Singh of "violating" the promise he made in
the Lok Sabha that he would come back to Parliament before
operationalising the nuclear deal, the Left parties have
already moved separate privilege motions in both the Houses.

A senior C.P.I.(M.) leader said that the four Left
parties and its supporting parties like J.D.(S.) and T.D.P.
will raise the issue in the House on Monday.

The leader noted that the Prime Minister had assured the
Lok Sabha during the reply to the confidence vote that his
government should be allowed to go to the I.A.E.A. and N.S.G.
and after that he will come back to Parliament.

Singh had assured that he would abide by what Parliament
says before operationalising the deal, the leader alleged.

Senior C.P.I.(M.) leader Sitaram Yechury has earlier said
that the Left does not want any further discussion on the deal
as it has already been clinched "despite majority of
Parliament not wanting it".

C.P.I.(M.) Parliamentary Party leader Basudev Acharia
said Singh has not kept his word and gone ahead with signing
the agreement with the U.S. which is a "breach of privilege"
of the House.

He pointed out that the Prime Minister has given nine
assurances to the House with regard to the nuclear deal on
fuel supply assurances, reprocessing rights and other issues.
