WISNU FOUNDATION DEVELOPS RURAL ECOTOURIST NETWORK

Denpasar, Oct 17 (ANTARA)- The Wisnu Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Bali, has developed a rural ecotourism network (JED) which has become very popular among foreign tourists.

"The network formed six years ago still needs to be developed further," I Made Suarnatha, the Foundation's chairman said here Friday.

He said that the JED has become a model for the development of tourism, featuring the potentials of tourist sites and destinations, including Pelaga village, Petang subdistrict in Badung regency, Tenganan and Sibetan villages in Karangasem regency and Nusa Ceningan village, Nusa Penida subdistrict, Klungkung regency.

The villages have unique and interesting artistic and cultural potentials, panorama, and also agricultural characteristics in line with environmental preservation.

Made Suarnatha explained that ecotourism model was expected to become something to learn and hope that all sides would practice them in their daily life.

"It is a new perspective in tourism and each village has sufficient experience to manage their own tourism sector," Suarnatha said.

Tenganan Pegringsingan, an ancient village in Karangasem regency in Bali's northern end, have a tradition and custom upheld by the community, and a beautiful nature to attract visitors' attention.

Plantations of salak plants, orange and other fruits in the villages and coral reefs in Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida are other sources and places of interest.
