IAIN AR-RANIRY GETS 12 NEW PROFESSORS

Banda Aceh, Oct 18 (ANTARA) - As many as 12 academicians at Ar-Raniri State Islamic Institute (IAIN Ar-Raniri) in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) provincial capital of Banda Aceh were installed as professors on Saturday.
"There were actually 16 academicians who would be installed as professor but because of certain problems, only 12 of them were confirmed," the institute's rector, Yusny Saby, said here on Saturday.
He said Aceh Vice Governor Muhammad Nazar installed the 12 academicians as professors in conjunction with the institute's 45th anniversary on October 5, 2008.
According to Muhammad Nazar, the installation of the new professors did not mean that learning and research activities at IAIN Ar-Raniry should stop but instead it shoud continue to be developed.
"For scientists, learning and research never end," the Aceh vice governor said, adding that the province at present was in need of qualified thinkers who were able to create prosperity for the local people.
He added that IAIN Ar-Raniry alumni were also expected to become conceptors, motivators, and facilitators of national and regional development.
Meanwhile, Yusny Saby said recently that IAIN Ar-Raniry would soon be turned into the first State Islamic University (UIN) in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province.
"We are making various preparations to turn the status of IAIN into UIN, because it is the desire of every academician at every college," Yusny Saby said here on Tuesday, October 7, 2008.
In relation with the change of its status, the only state Islamic institute in Aceh was currently preparing the accreditation of its 30 study programs.
Yusny Saby said a number of academic requirements such as the number of teaching staff with doctoral degrees and the number of the programs of study were needed to turn IAIN Ar-Raniri into a state Islamic university.
He said the institute at present had five faculties and 30 study programs.
