WORLD SILENT DAY TO ENABLE EARTH TO COOL DOWN
Denpasar, Oct 18 (ANTARA) - World Silent Day (WSD) is to be observed annually on March 21 to give Earth an opportunity to cool down, an environemntal activist here said.
"The day is to be observed because Earth which is 4.5 billion years old is facing environmental damage, social conflicts caused by depleting natural resources, and climate change," I Made Suarnatha, spokesperson of the Bali Collaboration for Climate Change, said here Saturday.
Suarnatha said the damage to the earth was caused by environmentally unfriendly production and consumption activities of humans.
Therefore, Suarnatha said, humans must realize that the earth needs to be given time to heal itself. WSD was expected to move people to save the earth by reducing their consumption of energy, natural resources, and other materials.
The Bali Collaboration for Climate Change is a forum consisting of several non-governmental organizations and professonals in Bali who are concerned about the impact of climate change. The forum was established in response to the international conference on climate change held in Nusa Dua in December 2007.
