PRESIDENT WANTS CONTINUING COOPERATION AMONG ALL PARTIES AMIDST GLOBAL CRISIS
Jakarta, Oct 17 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said all parties in the country should continue to cooperate in dealing with the impact of the global financial crisis on the national economy.
Speaking after performing Friday prayers at the Baiturrahim mosque in the presidential palace complex, the President said the government had over the past few weeks been asking all parties to join forces in coping with the impact of the global crisis on the national economy.
"As we all know, measures have been jointly taken at national level to manage the economy in the best possible way in the midst of the global financial crisis," the head of state said.
He also said the central government has asked provincial and regional administrations, Bank Indonesia (the central bank), the business community, state enterprises, and the House of Representatives (DPR) to cooperate to overcome the impact of the crisis.
"The steps the government had prescribed in the past weeks to avoid the negative impact of the global financial crisis on the country's economy will continue to be followed up," Yudhoyono said.
The president said although relations between the government and the DPR so far were marked by ups and downs, the two institutions now shared the same views on how to deal with the impact of the global financial crisis on the domestic economy.
"My gratitude goes to the House speaker and House members who have been working around the clock to find the best possible solution to the problem," the president said.
He said the cooperation between the government and the DPR was seen in the issuance of a government regulation in lieu of law (Perpu) to set up a financial system safety net.
"The Perpu could be issued thanks to the DPR's understanding, and therefore I hope the government and the House can also cooperate in a similar way in other matters," the president said.
