WORKING GROUP FOR APPLICATION OF INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS STANDARDS IN AZERBAIJAN

Baku, 16 0ctober, (AzerTAj)Joint Working Group for Application of International Human Rights Standards in Azerbaijan held a press conference on October 16.

Group representative Mark Wace said the Group watched voting process in 87 polling
stations in Baku, Sumgait, Ganja, Goychay, Guba and other cities.
According to him, amendments and additions to the Election Code helped to ensure
effective functioning of electoral institutions in Azerbaijan and citizens` right to
vote. They were based on proposals and recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR and Venice
Commission.
The group did not record any pressure on voters, interference of law-enforces. As a
whole, the conduct of election was a step towards building a democratic and legal
state and developing the civil society.
