BALI TO HOST ASIA PACIFIC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
Bandung, W Java, Oct 16 (ANTARA) - Some 500 intellectuals, officials, academicians and business leaders will gather in the resort island of Bali on November 13-15 for an international conference themed "Developing Asia Pacific Community: Unity in Diversity."
The three-day conference will discuss a wide range of latest regional issues such as international relations, security, democracy and Islam, global warming, gender, innovation, health, businesses and socio-cultural issues, the US Embassy in Jakarta said in a press statement on Thursday.
The meeting will feature a number of prominent figures including the Indonesian trade minister, the coordinating minister for people's welfare, the women's empowerment minister, the US ambassador to Indonesia, the Hawaii governor, the president of the East-West Center, the Bali governor and business leaders.
The conference will be held by the East-West Center, an internationally accredited education and research institute based in Honolulu, Hawaii, in cooperation with the Association of East-West Centers, an organization representing 55,000 East-West Center alumni in Asia, the Pacific and the US.
The Indonesian chapter of the Association of East-West Center will help organize the conference. About 2,750 intellectuals, researchers and professionals in business, administration, journalism and arts have taken part in a wide range of East-West Center cooperation programs since the institute was set up in 1960.
The East-West Center is an education and reseacrh organization formed by the US Congress in 1960 to strengthen relations and understanding among communities and nations in Asia, the Pacific and the US.
The organisation has contributed to the creation of peaceful, prosperous and just communities in Asia and the Pacific by becoming a dynamic center for research cooperation, education, and dialogs on crucial issues of common attention in the Asia Pacific region and the US.
