MALAYSIA TO INCREASE EXPORT OF TROPICAL FRUITS TO SAUDI ARABIA

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Agriculture and Agri-based Industry Ministry is identifying companies to carry out joint ventures with their Saudi Arabian counterparts to market tropical fruits to the Middle Eastern country.

Minister Mustapa Mohamed said the move was to increase export of
tropical fruits to Saudi Arabia.

"Prior to this Malaysia only export pineapples and watermelons. We hope
that
these joint-ventures would pave the way for us to export other types of fruit,"
he said.

He was speaking to reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum
of
understanding between Asia e University (AeU) and House of Advance Quality Co
Ltd here.

The memorandum was for the setting up of an AeU branch campus in Tammam,
Saudi Arabia either in January of February.

Mustapa also said that Malaysia would continue to import dates from Saudi
Arabia.
