PREPARATORY TALKS IN JAKARTA FOR 2ND RI-HUNGARY JOINT COMMITTEE MEETING
Jakarta, Oct 16 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is hosting preparatory talks here for the second meeting of the Indonesia-Hungary Joint Committee, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
"The preparatory talks are being held by the government departments responsible for the fields in which the countries are cooperating," Teuku Faizasyah, the spokesman, said here Thursday.
The second meeting of the Indonesia-Hungary Joint Committee would take place in Jakarta, December 15-17, 2008.
"Today's preparatory meeting is to evaluate the progress that has been made after the committee's first meeting in Budapest in 2005 and the obstacles met in the cooperation," he added.
The Joint Committee's second meeting would be a follow up of a result of talks between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Hungarian President Lazslo Solyom during the latter's first visit to Jakarta on May 21, 2008.
"Indonesia and Hungary are cooperating in the economic, trade, investment and socio-cultural fields. As the two countries are separated by a great geographical distance, the joint committee meeting is a communication forum that can be used to identify the obstacles faced by the two countries in their cooperation," Faizasyah said.
Indonesia and Hungary established diplomatic relations on June 26, 1955. Their relations grew rapidly but declined after the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) launched an abortive coup in Jakarta on Sept 30, 1965.
The first effort to normalize the two countries' relations was made in 1974 during a visit to Hungary by then Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Adam Malik.
