POLICE FOIL ATTEMPT TO SMUGGLE IN 70 TONS OF DIESEL OIL

Batam, Oct 16 (ANTARA) - Riau Islands police have foiled an attempt to smuggle in 70 tons of diesel oil in the waters of Subang Mas, Rempang-Galang, Riau Islands, police said.

"We are holding custody of KM SETIA vessel which transported the 70 tons of diesel oil," Director of the Crime and Investigation Department of the Riau Islands Police, Senior Commissioner M. Jupri said here on Thursday.
He said that police made the arrest on Wednesday night, October 15, 2008.
Police suspected that vessel had carried the diesel oil from overseas and sold it to various ships in the Indonesian waters.
Based on the results of initial police investigation, the owner of the boat was known by his initial as Yd and is now wanted by police.
"The skipper of the boat, Mhd, and its owner are now under police hunt," he said.
At present, evidence in the form of vessel and diesel oil is now held custody in the Air Punggur Police Post, according to Jupri.
Besides a motor vessel and diesel oil, police also held 12 crew members, namely JL, St, Ad, Ar, Ij, Wn, Sn,In, Bd and Rahman, for further investigation.
