DEPUTY FM ATTENDS MINISTERIAL MEETING OF ARF

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs G.Tenger has participated in the19th Ministerial Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum (19th ARF) which ran on July 12-13 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Foreign Ministers from 27 participants of the ARF shared views on the security of Northeast Asia, the matter on Korean Peninsula, internal affairs of Afghanistan and Myanmar, terrorism, marine security and other international and regional urgent problems. They also congratulated people and government of Myanmar on making a vital step for the democracy, and expressed readiness to help Myanmar strengthen the democracy. During the meeting, the Third Protocol amending the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia was signed. It would enable the European Union (EU) and other regional organizations to join the Treaty which was signed on February 24 in 1976 by the leaders of the original members of ASEAN. Mongolia joined the Treaty in July 28 of 2005. The Vice Minister G.Tenger expressed a position of Mongolia towards international issues, introduced the participants to activities of the Mongolia-chaired Community of Democracies (CoD), and spoke about a recently hosted by Mongolia international forum on women's leadership which was participated by many famous women such as Ms. Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State, and Ms. Kim Campbell, a former Premier of Canada. Prime Minister of Cambodia Mr. Hun Sen received G.Tenger, then G.Tenger exchanged views with Mr. Bilahari Kausikan, the Permanent Secretary of Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on bilateral and international issues.
