Clean fuel to be used in Yemen

SANA'A, Oct. 15 (Saba)- Minister of Oil and Minerals Amir al-Aidrous
said his ministry would take measures for providing a number of fuel
stations in the country with copper-free benzene as initial step to
start next December and last for 2009.

The ministry would work on improving different kinds of diesel and
its derivatives in Aden Refinery for having clean fuel protecting
environment, says al-Aidrous in the workshop assigned for preparing
document on policies of cleaner fuel in Yemen, organized by
ministries of oil and of water and environment in cooperation with
UN' Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).

He indicated that there is great consumption of fuel containing
copper, a matter causes environmental and humanitarian damage,
noting that local consumption of diesel reached last year 250
thousand tons while benzene consumption reached 100 thousands tons.

For his part, Minster of Water and Environment Abdurrahman al-Iryani
indicated that the aim of the workshop is to come out with clear
document of policies fixing practical steps the government would
carry out for limiting damages of fuel containing high percent of
copper.
