Qatar Ministry of Environment Participates in MEED Conference
Doha, July 10 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment, represented by Qatar's Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre (DSWMC), has participated in the conference recently held in the UK by international event organizer MEED.
DSWMC Director Mansoor Saleh Bu Mattar al-Muhannadi, who represented the Ministry in the conference, has showcased the Centre's project and the new disposal stations under the title "Qatar's 2012 Infrastructure Projects", to over 150 participants including trade and industry firm representatives.
Al-Muhannadi presented the Ministry of Environment's agenda, which encompassed the project's different phases, indicating that the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning had signed the contract establishing the center in October 2006 with a company specialized in the field, to design and set up a comprehensive centre in Mesaieed in addition to disposal stations.
The DSWMC Director also played a film on the project and answered enquiries from attendees.
Located in Mesaieed, the Centre is the first integrated solid waste treatment facility of its kind in the Middle East, as its treats and recycles 95% of domestic solid waste through separating material and managing it to extract raw materials for local industries. Additionally, it executes the waste-to-energy mechanism, generating electric energy to self-operate, and converting surplus power to Qatar's electric network.
Furthermore, the Centre's design adheres to maximum environmental safety standards. Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has handed the project to the Ministry of Environment in October 2011, which in turn has operated it. (QNA)
