Diarrhea outbreak reported in Thai North

BANGKOK, July 9 (TNA) - Over 100 students of Suksa Songkhroh Chiang Mai School in the Thai North who were hospitalized after suffering from diarrhea earlier Monday have reportedly recovered, although about 40 of them have not yet been discharged from hospital. An inspection team led by Dr. Surasingh Visarutrat , Chiang Mai's deputy public health chief, rushed to inspect the school after the students, mostly hill-tribe children, were admitted to hospitals. The incident took place after the students ate boiled eggs, donated by local villagers, and fish balls curry, cooked by school staff since Sunday night. All the hospitalized students were reportedly experiencing high fever, vomiting and stomach aches. The cause of the outbreak has not yet been identified. The team of provincial public health officials have, however, collected samples of the food and sent it to the Regional Medical Sciences Center for an official test, the result of which should be known within seven days.
