S. Korea to push for FIFA recognition of century club members
SEOUL, Oct. 15 (Yonhap) -- The football governing body here said Wednesday it will push for FIFA's formal recognition of a trio of South Koreans believed to have completed their 100th caps during their careers.
FIFA, the world football governing body, allows players who have taken part in
100 national football matches to join the prestigious "century club," where only
six South Koreans have been permitted, according to the Korea Football
Association.
The KFA said three more South Koreans are believed to be eligible, including Park
Sung-hwa who coached the country's squad at the Beijing Olympics. But their
achievements have yet to be formally recognized due to a deficiency in records to
prove them.
The KFA said it plans to send its officials to countries where necessary archives
could be retrieved by year's end, and file a request to FIFA to have the trio
fully recognized.
The other candidates seeking to join the century club include Kim Ho-kon, who
coached South Korea's World Cup squad in 1986, and Cho Young-jeung, a former
defender who is now a senior KFA member.
