General Directorate of Civil Defense Tests Latest Fire-Fighting Mechanisms

Doha, July 03 (QNA) - Qatar's General Directorate of Civil Defense has tested the latest mechanisms included in its fleet which fight fires using open water sources. The abovementioned include two vehicles for water suction from the sea to be pumped through long distances; two Mercedes Axor fitted with a crane and a HydroSub 900 unit known for its capability to reach open water sources and pump it to a 50 meter height, the Directorate indicated. Additionally, it contains Foam Insulation and water supply equipment as well as a mobile electricity generator. Such equipment, which will support fire-fighting operations, is capable of withdrawing 24,000 liters of water per minute, the Directorate added. The General Directorate of Civil Defense has also tested new equipment at The Pearl-Qatar project under its cooperation with the project's administration in the safety and civil protection fields. New equipment is among the latest mechanisms acquired to be part of the civil defense fleet, General Directorate of Civil Defense Staff Brig. Abdullah Muhammad Al Suwaidi said adding that it is the latest in fire-fighting methods relying on open water sources. Civil defense personnel have been trained to run and use the equipment by manufacturers in Holland prior to the purchases and equipment is now in service at the General Directorate of Civil Defense, Al Suwaidi added.
