More haze-hit province in Thai South

THAILAND, July 3 (TNA) - Thick haze blanketed all 10 districts in Thailand's southern Trang province Tuesday, the second round of its kind, prompting the provincial governor to have ordered officials concerned in all the affected areas to be on alert for immediate assistance rendered to local people. According to Trang's chief disaster prevention and mitigation officer Amnuay Chantarat, the new wave of the thick smog from the Sumatra Island in neighbouring Indonesia had particularly reduced visibility on the Trang-Sikao Road and areas surrounding the Nakhon Trang municipality. Amnuay acknowledged that the haze situation in Trang, however, remains uncritical, as local people and trawlers have been able to carry on their normal ways of life although the reduced visibility has prompted them to take more precaution for their own safety. Trang Governor Teerayuth Iaumtrakul, meanwhile, instructed officials in all districts to stay on high alert and timely handing out face masks to the locals in their respective areas. The provincial governor ordered that special attentions be paid to locals of vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, assessing that the haze situation in Trang should return to normal over the next couple of days, thanks to seasonal downpours currently.
