CHAIRMAN OF AZERBAIJAN CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE

Baku, 14 0ctober, (AzerTAj)Chairman of Azerbaijan Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov gave a press conference Tuesday, a day before people head to polling stations to cast ballots for one of seven presidential candidates.

Panahov said the candidates` pre-election campaign ended today at 8.00 a.m., with no
serious violations registered.
According to the CEC chief, the voting will be conducted in 125 constituencies and
5,359 polling stations, of which 5,148 are permanent and 33 located in Azerbaijan’s
foreign diplomatic missions. The rest of the polling stations, Panahov added, were
set up in ships navigating under Azerbaijan’s national flag, places temporarily
settled by eligible voters, including hospitals, sanatoriums, and institutions of
confinement.
The CEC Chairman said all constituencies and polling stations across the country
were completely ready for the poll.
According to Panahov, 4.8 million people will cast their ballots in the voting which
will be monitored by 45,000 local and 1,258 international observers from 59
countries and international organizations, including OSCE, the Council of Europe,
PACE, European Parliament, European Union, CIS PA, GUAM and National Institute for
Democracy.
The CEC Chairman said 108 journalists from more than 30 foreign media outlets will
cover the voting process.
Polling stations will be open from 8.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Central Election Commission will issue five reports on the Polling Day, with
preliminary results to be released the same evening.
500 polling stations are equipped with webcams to provide internet users with an
opportunity to watch the voting online.
