QP Holds Radiation Safety Workshop

Doha, July 02 (QNA) - A two-day workshop on radiation safety get underway on Monday, jointly run by Qatar Petroleum (QP) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Over 50 safety and environmental professionals from the Ministry of Environment as well as the energy sector are taking part in the workshop, which is organized by QP's Department of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), a QP statement said. The workshop represents a starting point for one of the most important technical cooperation projects between Qatar and IAEA, the statement added. Addressing the workshop, Director of QP s HSE Regulations and Enforcement Directorate Saif Saed Al Naimi highlighted the significance of the project as one that promotes environmental protection and preservation, which is an essential pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. The workshop saw IAEA experts lecturing the participants on radiation safety and environmental protection in the industrial sector, paying special attention to the proper ways of dealing with Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM), which are produced during the drilling and extraction of oil and gas.
